Equipment

  • 1 Saucepan or pot

Ingredients

  • 2 cups Water
  • 1 Black tea bags, or 1-2 teaspoons of loose leaf black tea like Assam, Ceylon, or Darjeeling
  • 3 whole green cardamom pods lightly crushed

  • A splash of milk or a milk alternative optional

Instructions

  • Bring the 2 cups of water to a rolling boil in a pot or saucepan.
  • Lightly crush the cardamom pods with the back of a spoon or a mortar and pestle to release their flavor. You don't need to grind them completely, just enough to open the pods.
  • Add the crushed cardamom pods to the boiling water. Then, add the black tea bags or loose leaf tea. Lower the heat and let it simmer for about 3-5 minutes, depending on how strong you like your tea.
  • Remove the tea bags or strain the loose tea and cardamom pods from the water. Pour the tea into cups.
  • If desired, add honey or sugar to sweeten and a splash of milk for creaminess. Adjust the amounts to your taste.
